THE SCHOOL
Beechwood is centred on a grand Victoria Mansion built in 1855 and modelled on one of Queen Victoria’s residences. Founded in 1915, it has a reputation for supporting its students’ individual learning styles in small classes to achieve excellent personal academic outcomes.
The school regularly helps students attain offers from Oxbridge universities as well as other renowned institutions including Edinburgh, Goldsmiths, Bristol and Kings College, London. With a diverse range of university subjects such as Mechanical Engineering, Pharmacology, Forensic Science, Biochemistry, Fashion and Textiles, Art and Politics. In 2021, more than 80% of students achieved A* to B, with 60% receiving A* and A awards at A-Level. GCSE results saw 38% of all examinations graded A*/A or 9/8/7. Tunbridge Wells is an affluent spa town, which was made fashionable in the 18th Century and remained in favour through Queen Victoria’s reign until it gained its royal title from Edward VII in 1909. Surrounded by leafy Kent countryside, the town is home to a satisfying blend of places of historical significance and high quality, independent boutique and restaurants. A stone’s throw from London, it is the ideal setting to experience English countryside with the benefits afforded by the proximity to the capital.

Central aims of Beechwood include fostering independence of thought and equipping students with the values, skills and habits that will help shape their future in a wider world. With this in mind, an extensive programme of significant extracurricular experiences is provided. This includes regular cultural excursions into London and carefully curated overseas trips to places such as Venice.
Beechwood carefully prepares each individual for university interviews and coaches more broadly for their next steps into Higher Education. Positions of responsibility are regularly given to the older students to encourage personal development and ultimately confident independence.
